Lisa Schomp named a leading woman in auto industry by Automotive News

Lisa Schomp, a third-generation car dealer and owner-president of Ralph Schomp Automotive in Littleton, has been named one of the “100 Leading Women in the North American Auto Industry” by Automotive News.
“My grandfather was a car dealer, and my father was also in the business,” Schomp tells Automotive News. “I came from a family of six girls and didn’t see any girls in the business. I thought, ‘Why can’t girls do this, too?’”
It’s the trade journal’s first in-depth look at women leaders in the auto industry since 2005.
Most of the 100 women on the list work for automakers; Schomp is one of 13 on the retail side.
The report says that both the recession and the lure of jobs in other fields are thinning the ranks of women in the business.
In interviews, several of the 100 women featured by Automotive News tell of how they had a tough time breaking into a male-dominated business — and Schomp is no exception.
“When I was 21, I was a greeter and brought coffee and donuts to customers at my father’s Oldsmobile store,” Schomp, 58, said in the interview. “When I told my father I wanted to be a dealer, he said I would have to start from the bottom. But if I was his son, I might have started in the sales or service department.”
She also tells of being just the second woman to attend what was then called the “General Motors’ Dealers’ Son School” in Flint, Mich.
“It was a six-month program, and there were about 220 of us in the class,” she recalls. “When I entered the classroom, the instructor looked at me and said the warranty clerk’s class was down the hall. I told him I was not there for the warranty clerk’s class, and he asked, ‘What do you need, honey?’ I said, ‘I’m here to be a dealer — what are you doing here?’”

5-Star Rating on Google Maps

No hassle, no haggle.‎‎
By Jason - Jul 22, 2010, Google Maps
I love the one price, no haggle philosophy. Buying my BMW from them was very stress free. They were upfront and fair about trade in (went by blue book) and the price of a new car. Top notch customer service thus far. This is the way buying a car should be.‎

BMW Group announces support for iPod Out

by Serenity Caldwell, Macworld.com

"iPod Out" was one of the new iOS 4 APIs mentioned at Apple's preview event back in April, but no one quite knew what it was meant for?until last week, when BMW Group announced that it had integrated iPod Out into its newest BMW and Mini vehicle entertainment systems.

So what is iPod Out? From BMW Group's press photos and description, the API allows car manufacturers to integrate the iPod Classic OS look and controls into a vehicle?s on-board entertainment system. Owners of future BMW and Mini models will be able to control their iPod or iPhone fully from the car?s interface controls. In addition, users will have access to their device?s Genius feature and be able to make custom playlists.

BMW Group seems all too happy to use this API, stating that "future vehicles equipped with this technology will be able to adapt more quickly to the software lifecycles of iPod touch and iPhone" (Here's hoping this will mean the end of terrible custom iPod music UIs and messages like "iPod/iPhone not supported" when you plug in your newest iOS device.)

BMW Group hasn't outlined any specific timeline for integration, but notes that support will be coming to future BMW models using BMW ConnectedDrive and Mini models using Mini Connected. Customers who wish to use the iPod Out feature in new BMW Group cars need to have an iPhone or iPod touch running iOS 4.0 or later.

5 Thumbs Up from Dex Knows

My experiences at Schomp have been entirely different. No High Brow attitudes. Service is always done correctly. People are very friendly. That is why I've purchased a second car from them...even though they are significantly farther (geopgraphicly) than their Denver competitor.."

4 Star Review from Insider Pages

No haggle, no pressure. We bought a car from a great representative, Will Routon, and had an honest transaction. From the purchase through our first year of owning the car, we have had positive interactions with Schomp. On one occasion I had to call several times to get the results from a check-up on my car (they'd misplaced the paperwork), but it wasn't something that would cause me to not recommend the dealership.

Ralph Schomp BMW 5700 South Broadway, Littleton, CO 80121
always a great experience - Apr 24, 2010

"In the last 9 or so years, I have purchased 4 different BMW's from the Schomp BMW Center, the most recent was just this week. Every single experience I have had has been nothing but professional. I have purchased two vehicles from Brian Neal in sales in the last three years and he is a true pleasure to work with, very responsive to requests, and works hard to find you exactly what you are looking for. His customer service is top notch. I also use Schomp for all of the service on the vehicles and have found the service department to always go above and beyond to make sure everything is right. Besides the BMW being a great vehicle, the service is in part why we continue to return when we want to purchase a new vehicle. This dealership and it's people have always taken care of us. I never write reviews, but after reading some of the other reviews, I felt compelled to let people know, I would recommend this dealership to anyone wanting a fair price, good service and a great sales experience."

4 Star Review from Yelp

4 star rating
4/26/2010
So I needed an oil change and decided to venture out to the dealership since one of my professors bought a car from Schomp and recommended it to me.

So I end up driving to the previous location off Broadway and like a typical guy, I drive around for a good 10-15 minutes trying to find this place. I finally gave up and called them. They just moved off of C-470 and so I make the trek down there.

The show-room is quite impeccable and of course they have a huge breakfast and free Wi-Fi. They not only changed my oil, but also changed my windshield wiper blades and washed my car.

The only negative is the location which is out of the way. Other than that a much better dealership than my last experience in Dallas.
